Ants
What are ants?
Ants are a ubiquitous presence both indoors and outdoors, with several species commonly encountered in and around buildings. Indoors, you may encounter tiny sugar ants, also known as odorous house ants, attracted to sweet food sources in kitchens and pantries. Carpenter ants, on the other hand, prefer damp wood and can cause structural damage if left unchecked. Outside, pavement ants create their nests in cracks and crevices of sidewalks and driveways, while fire ants build large mounds in lawns and gardens, delivering painful stings if disturbed. Each species exhibits unique behaviors and nesting habits, necessitating tailored control strategies for effective management.
How do I keep ants away from my property?
Preventing ant invasions can be difficult. It requires a combination of proactive measures both inside and outside your property. Start by keeping indoor spaces clean and free of food debris, sealing food containers tightly, and promptly cleaning up spills and crumbs. Regularly inspect and repair any cracks or gaps in walls, floors, and windows to prevent entry points for ants. Outdoors, maintain cleanliness in outdoor eating areas, dispose of garbage properly, and trim vegetation away from the perimeter of your home to eliminate ant highways. Additionally, ensure proper drainage to reduce moisture buildup, as ants are attracted to damp environments.
